Sea Horse Cottage in Paget has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving from a modest 1960s summer home into a contemporary residence that balances modern functionality with traditional Bermuda charm. The project reimagined the property to better serve a young family while honouring its historical setting on Tankfield Estate.

One of the most impactful design choices was the introduction of a new driveway leading directly to the east-facing front entrance. This change allowed visitors to be greeted by sweeping South Shore views and a welcoming contemporary façade, rather than climbing multiple staircases into what was once the back of the home. Inside, is now filled with natural materials and open, light-filled spaces. The iroko wood front door, cabinetry, collar ties, and custom vanities create warmth throughout, complemented by wood-look flooring and expansive, slate-grey framed windows that flood the interiors with natural light.

The heart of the home is the vaulted, open-plan kitchen and living space, which flows seamlessly to a south-facing porch. Thoughtful details, such as a discreet wet bar, a tucked-away coffee station, and a new fireplace, add character while maximizing functionality. The renovation restructured the home’s layout: the former kitchen became a laundry room, the old living and dining areas were converted into a spacious master suite with ensuite bath and walk-in closet, and a lower-level studio was expanded into a one-bedroom apartment. Additional bedrooms and family areas were reimagined to provide comfort and flexibility for children and guests.

Completed in 15 months, the renovation added 1,800 square feet, bringing the home’s total to 2,500 square feet. With its traditional lines, balanced proportions, and airy interiors, Sea Horse Cottage now serves as a modern, durable family home while preserving its connection to Bermuda’s architectural heritage.
